Middlebury College Students Reject 'Ideological Monoculture'
How One JMC Partner Program is Improving Student Education in 2020
"Before I discovered the [Alexander Hamilton] Forum, I felt lost and silenced on this campus."
—Clayton H.
Middlebury College Sophomore
"Middlebury has been ranked one of the 'Worst Colleges for Free Speech' in 2019 by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE)," said Professor Keegan Callanan, JMC faculty partner and director of the Alexander Hamilton Forum ([link removed]) at Middlebury College.
"But with the support of the Jack Miller Center, the Hamilton Forum is working to cultivate habits of reasoned debate and discussion across political and intellectual differences."

JMC invests in the development of campus programs for undergraduates ([link removed]) that expand and sustain education in America's founding principles and to act as models for programming on other college campuses.
One of our newest campus partner programs, the Alexander Hamilton Forum, focuses on the study of American political thought and the founding principles, and their relationship to American institutions, law, political economy, and foreign policy.
"Hundreds of students have attended our events, demonstrating both an intellectual hunger for these sorts of serious conversations and a rejection of ideological monoculture," said Professor Callanan.
STUDENT PERSPECTIVES
"At Middlebury College, it is virtually impossible to find an event with a speaker that has a viewpoint different than the campus majority—that is, unless you attend a Hamilton Forum event."
—Clayton H., Middlebury Sophomore
"The Hamilton Forum helps connect me to a diverse group of students and professors who are all committed to promoting the free exchange of ideas.... My arguments are challenged and therefore become elaborated and strengthened."
—Hannah W., Middlebury Sophomore
