Remember the train derailment and toxic chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio? Those families are still suffering the health and financial consequences of that crash -- a disaster directly caused by rail companies' greed.
That was just one of the 1,000+ train derailments across our nation in the last year. We gotta do something.
Here's rail companies' plan for boosting their profits: fewer workers, fewer safety measures, longer trains. Is it any wonder this ended in disaster?! 🤦🏿♂️
So here's what our bill would do:
Require common-sense safety protocol, ESPECIALLY when transporting toxic materials.
Mandate at least a two-person crew. (For real, rail companies staff some of those giant trains with just one person!)
Force rail companies to FINALLY provide PAID SICK LEAVE to workers. (Right now most rail workers can't take a day off.)
