- Expansion: Everglades National Park. The largest wilderness east of the Mississippi needs you, John. Once a lush, 3 million-acre refuge for untold plants and wildlife, the Everglades now covers just half its peak range. Less than a third of that range is under public protection. - Connection: Sweetwater Preserve and Saguaro National Park. Trust for Public Land is embarking on a land protection project in Saguaro National Park, a critical wilderness access point just outside of Tucson, Arizona. By connecting nearby Sweetwater Preserve to the park, we can protect wildlife roaming between mountains and foothills and expand recreational opportunities for the millions of people who live near and visit the park each year. - Community: 14 Schoolyards Projects. While our roots are in large-scale public land protection, Trust for Public Land also develops multiuse outdoor spaces right in our communities. By transforming empty schoolyards into green spaces accessible to the public when school is out, we can put a great park within a 10-minute walk of more than 80 million people!
