Hi folks,
I know you’ve been hearing a lot about our September 30th FEC fundraising deadline (thank you to everyone who has pitched in!) — but there’s another important deadline that day too.
I’m talking about Congress’ deadline to fund the government and avoid a government shutdown.
Frankly speaking, a government shutdown would be devastating for our economy. It would disrupt the critical functions of federal agencies affect the livelihoods of millions of people.
But Kevin McCarthy doesn’t care. He handed the reins of the GOP to extremist Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz when he became Speaker of the House. Now, he’s focused on appeasing Donald Trump by pushing a sham impeachment inquiry forward instead of actually governing.
And even that isn’t enough for the Freedom Caucus — who are demanding steep cuts to essential programs that families across the country rely on.

Folks, I’m committed to doing everything I can to deliver results for families in New Jersey and across the country, but Kevin McCarthy and the extremist Republican majority are failing the most basic test of leadership. So please, add your name to my petition to demand that Congress get to work, do its job, and avoid a government shutdown.
Thank you,
Mikie
