Friend, environmentalists like you have demanded regulations ensuring all animals on organic farms are treated humanely, which is what most of us expect from USDA Organic. Because of your hard work, the USDA is so close to implementing the Organic Livestock and Poultry Standard Rule (OLPS), which would strengthen animal welfare standards for organic farming, including closing a loophole that allows some producers to deny organic chickens access to the outdoors! Organic farmers, advocates and consumers have pushed USDA for decades to finalize these important rules and ensure organic can live up to its vision of building a healthier, more transparent, and more humane food system.

But Senator Marshall has introduced an amendment that would BLOCK the rule from moving forward! If it passes, this amendment would remove accountability and strict guidelines that would ensure ALL organic farmers have to treat animals humanely.

In 2017, the Trump Administration reversed the OLPS rule, and since then we have been fighting to get the USDA to implement these common sense regulations. The OLPS rule ensures the humane treatment of animals on organic farms, creates a level playing field for organic farmers and gives consumers the peace of mind that they deserve.
