Friend,
One of my top priorities as Mayor is standing up for the most vulnerable people in our community. Our team is always working to increase affordable housing and protect the rights of seniors, working families, and people with disabilities.
Recently, we made a big leap forward on that front with the passage of Assembly Bill 1620, an initiative that I spearheaded in partnership with Assemblyman Rick Chavez Zbur.
The bill, which will protect renters in West Hollywood and across the state of California, is a huge win for tenants and disability rights.
It allows renters with a movement disability to switch to an apartment on the first floor of their buildings, while keeping their lease and their rent-stabilized status intact when there is no elevator available. This will make a life-changing difference for seniors and other mobility-challenged tenants, who may have lived and aged for years in an upper-floor apartment with no elevator access.
Friend, I'm a renter too. I know what it's like to struggle to find safe, affordable, accessible housing, and it's a challenge that I don't believe anyone should have to face.
That's why, in the Mayor's office and in Congress, I'll always work to create housing solutions for all of us.

With gratitude,
Mayor Sepi Shyne
