This year’s United Nations General Assembly – happening now in New York City – is a momentous occasion for public health. The UN is sponsoring three high-level meetings on health as well as a political forum on sustainable development.

Through our special consultative status with the UN, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is sending representatives to these meetings to advocate for evidence-based policies that protect children, improve health and save the most lives around the world. 

Our Global Health Advocacy Incubator also convened a discussion today for UN delegations and other public health leaders: Advocacy to Impact Health Disparities, which you can watch now:

We demonstrated how tobacco control, immunization, food and nutrition policy, pandemic prevention and primary healthcare strengthening can improve public health outcomes for all, particularly the most disadvantaged. The event was a call to action – to ensure that the commitments being made in New York are translated into decision-making, leadership, action and impact for people and their communities in their own countries. 

Here's what we’re fighting to ensure:

1. The people most impacted by health disparities are reached and served.
2. Essential voices, including those most impacted, have a seat at the table.
3. Urgent public health policies get prioritized and financed, and governments are held accountable for their implementation.

But it goes well beyond the UN. We have staff and in-country partners around the world working 24/7 to make this a reality. And with support from advocates like you, we get closer every day.
