Washington, D.C. - Last week, Ranking Member of the Social Security Subcommittee John B. Larson (CT-01) served as the keynote speaker at the Harkin Retirement Security Symposium and was awarded the inaugural “Visionary Award” from the Harkin Institute. The Visionary Award in Retirement Security is given to someone who has dedicated a substantial part of their career to improving the retirement security of all Americans.

“Thank you to former Senator Harkin and the Harkin Institute for having me as the keynote speaker at their Retirement Security Symposium, and I am deeply honored to receive their Visionary Award today,” said Larson. “10,000 Baby Boomers a day become eligible for Social Security, and yet Congress has not acted in more than 50 years to enhance it. It is our duty in Congress to ensure the program American workers pay into with each and every paycheck is here now and in the future. Thanks to organizations like the Harkin Institute, the fight for protecting and enhancing Social Security is ongoing. We are determined in Congress to keep up this fight and deliver for the American people. We must deliver what the American people have rightfully earned and paid into with every paycheck.”

This year, Larson reintroduced the Social Security 2100 Act, legislation that would increase benefits across-the-board, improve the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), improve customer service at the Social Security Administration, and repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).
