While other countries have passed comprehensive laws to rein in the power of tech giants, Congress has not passed a single piece of comprehensive tech regulation in the last 25 years.
In fact, take a look at this timeline of the United States' regulations on Big Tech since 1998:

And no, we didn’t leave anything out.
Big Tech companies are abusing their power, exploiting users' privacy, and spreading content that hurts kids. And in the absence of federal action, states have been forced to take the lead on tech regulation.
In fact, just last week, California took a stand by passing Assembly Bill 1394 ! This groundbreaking legislation aimed at combatting child sexual abuse material online would hold social media companies accountable for not removing explicit content featuring minors.
And while this is a huge step forward for tech regulation, we need to see this happening at a national scale to really make a difference in our children’s lives.
Instead of allowing these big tech companies to operate with total impunity within our borders, we need Congress to pass comprehensive tech regulation that will protect consumers, promote competition, and hold Big Tech accountable. Don’t you agree?
