Last week, Judge Hanen ruled against DACA yet again and doubled down on his decision to halt new applications.
We’ve been anticipating this decision for months but didn’t know when it would come. Once it did, this community sprung into action — sharing critical information for DACA recipients, running rapid response digital ads, and flooding elected officials with letters from constituents demanding action on a pathway to citizenship.
Now, we move into the next phase of our fight for protections. This case may go all the way to the Supreme Court, and we don’t know what the justices may decide when it does. That’s why our fight goes beyond DACA and all the way to permanent protections.
DACA was never enough. It was always a band-aid solution, and now is the time to demand more, while we have the attention of Congress and the urgency of the moment.
