Dear Friend,

You’re invited to Freedom of the Press Foundation’s (FPF) next membership event, “SecureDrop 101,” on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. EDT.

Nathan Dyer, FPF’s newsroom support engineer, leads this hour-long webinar to explore why SecureDrop was created, how the open-source whistleblowing platform works, and goals for the project, which is used by investigative journalists around the world.
Tune in at 3 p.m. EDT on Oct. 4 ([link removed])

Whistleblower and FPF board member Edward Snowden has said many times how important SecureDrop is, and why it is crucial for whistleblowers to protect themselves with secure communication methods like it. Here’s what he said in The Intercept in 2015 ([link removed]) :

“When we talk about whistleblowers and what to do, you want to think about tools for protecting your identity, protecting the existence of the relationship from any type of conventional communication system. You want to use something like SecureDrop, over the Tor network, so there is no connection between the computer that you are using at the time — preferably with a non-persistent operating system like Tails, so you’ve left no forensic trace on the machine you’re using… so that the only outcome of your operational activities are the stories reported by the journalists.”

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, Oct. 4, to learn more about SecureDrop. As always, there will be time for Q&A, and this webinar will be recorded and uploaded into the FPF Events Archive ([link removed]) for on-demand viewing.

Thank you,

Ryan Rice
