Dear John,
This month, oil company Kinder Morgan managed to force the greenlighting of its
Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline.
This pipeline is moving forward against the objections of Indigenous communities
and First Nations along the pipeline route. It would lead to a massive increase
in vessel traffic through the Salish Sea -- threatening endangered orcas.
These pipeline projects can still proceed because insurance companies like
Liberty Mutual are backing them up. If Liberty Mutual stops insuring tar sands
pipelines, companies like Kinder Morgan wouldn’t be able to build them. We need
your help convincing Liberty Mutual to drop tar sands from its portfolio.
No more tar sands: Tell Liberty Mutual to stop covering for dirty projects like
the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

The Kinder Morgan Pipeline is a ticking climate time bomb. It would bring
890,000 barrels of crude oil per day across Canada and out through the shared
Salish Sea waters of the Northwest.
What’s more, the Kinder Morgan pipeline jeopardizes the safety of the
environment and tramples over the rights of coastal and indigenous communities.
Tar sands is among the dirtiest sources of fuel out there. It sinks rapidly --
making it almost impossible to clean up a spill. And it’s horrible for the
climate.
The science is clear: we must stop pulling fossil fuels out of the ground if we
want to prevent the worst impacts of climate chaos. In order to do that,
insurers like Liberty Mutual need to stop insuring tar sands projects. But the
insurance giant will only change course under pressure from people like you,
John.
End our reliance on fossil fuels: Demand Liberty mutual stop insuring tar sands
pipelines NOW!

Insurance companies are focused on risk, and the biggest risk right now for any
company is climate change. Fossil fuels are a huge liability for these
companies. But it seems like Liberty Mutual missed that message.
Activists like you have fought the Kinder Morgan pipeline for years. You’ve
pushed decision-makers from the U.S. to Canada to reject it. Now, we need you to
help address the financial backing for this project.
No more fossil fuel projects: Tell Liberty Mutual to insure our future, not
fossil fuel pipelines!
