Folks,
You may have heard us talk about the ongoing conflict between Alabama lawmakers and the Supreme Court.
In short:
- Alabama Republicans submitted a racially gerrymandered congressional map.
- Then, the Supreme Court ruled it violated the Voting Rights Act and must be redrawn with at least two Black-majority districts.
- And now, Alabama Republicans submitted a new map that completely ignored the Supreme Court, and again, left Black Alabamians with very little voting power.
But this isn’t the first time Alabama lawmakers have worked to undermine Black Alabamians.
You see, while Alabama is the birthplace of history-defining, civil rights-era movements for justice like the Selma to Montgomery March, it also has a long and violent history of conservative resistance to progress and equality.
That’s why we need to do everything we can to support our partners on the ground in Alabama who are rallying for better representation, fair maps, and more. Can you pitch in $10 or any amount to help?
