Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made headlines last week when she announced she’s running for reelection. We think she made much bigger news this week by announcing that she’s endorsing former NASA Chief of Staff and Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides in his campaign to defeat Mike Garcia in California’s 27th Congressional District.

California 27 is as winnable as incumbent Mike Garcia is despicable. Despite being represented by a Republican, the district has been graded D+4 by Cook PVI, and Biden won the district by 12.4 points. Earlier this year, we featured the district in our breakdown of the most flippable districts by 2020 presidential vote margin.

And that’s before we even get to Mike Garcia’s record. Garcia is an original member of the 147 Members of Congress who helped incite the January 6th insurrection by voting to challenge the correct and lawful outcome of the 2020 election. He voted against the subsequent impeachment of Donald Trump, referred to the DC and Capitol PD who protected put their lives on the line as Nazis, and accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributors from false electors. Don’t be fooled by the fact that he’s a Californian, Mike Garcia is one of the most extreme members of the 147.
