BREAKING: President Biden just announced he would formally establish the American Climate Corps!!!!!

We f*cking won, John!!! After three years of pressure on the Biden Administration from our movement and young activists all across the country, we finally won a Civilian Climate Corps — one of our biggest demands!

The newly announced Climate Corps will put thousands of young people to work serving their communities and fighting the climate crisis.

The work carried out by the Climate Corps will:

• decrease carbon emissions, 
• enable a transition to renewable energy,
• build healthier and more resilient communities,
• advance environmental justice,
• implement conservation projects with proven climate benefits and,
• help communities recover from climate disasters. 

If you’ve been there with us over the years, you know — we didn’t win this by luck. Since 2020, our movement has been at the frontlines of the fight for a Climate Corps — transforming it from an idea into a reality. 

Over the past three years, we’ve worked hard organizing our communities, protesting, building coalitions, and pressuring our elected officials to support the formation of a Civilian Climate Corps.

Sunrisers marched 400 miles from New Orleans to Houston demanding a Civilian Climate Corps. Others marched 266 miles from Paradise, CA to San Francisco. Hundreds more organized protests across the country, and in Washington D.C., to push their leaders to take this crisis seriously and put a new generation to work stopping the climate crisis. 

Weathering record heat and torrential rain, we never gave up. We never caved. We kept fighting. We put our bodies on the line, went on hunger strike, marched across the country, blockaded the White House, and never stopped believing in our vision for a CCC.

This win is proof that when we get organized, young people can win real things for our generation. More importantly, it’s proof that when we come together we can force people in power to listen to us. If we can win a Climate Corps — an idea that people once thought was too far-fetched — we can win a Green New Deal.
