John,
Eric Trump visited Uruguay for a two-day business trip that cost taxpayers at least $80,786.
The Trump family empire keeps doing business at the taxpayer’s expense, and CREW obtained records yesterday that add to the massive tally of Secret Service costs. Eric Trump’s 2019 trip brings his total to at least $178,616—for the development of the Trump Organization’s Uruguay property alone.
Trips like this one advance President Trump’s financial interests because he refused to divest from the Trump Organization. We can’t know how much, because he’s fighting to keep his tax returns and financial records hidden from the public.
Eric Trump is entitled to Secret Service protection and should be protected, but taxpayers deserve to know just how much they are subsidizing promotion of Trump’s businesses. However, the administration is attempting to delay disclosure of additional details of Secret Service spending until after the election. That means that our work exposing records like these provide one of the only windows into the costs to taxpayers. To ensure that your friends and family understand the costs of Trump’s corruption, please share our post on Eric Trump’s expensive business trip on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter.
Between President Trump’s 267 golf trips to his own courses, and charging the Secret Service up to $650 per room per night to protect Trump at Mar-a-Lago, we knew that Trump’s tab with the taxpayers was high. Now we can add another $80,000 to the tally of costs taxpayers have paid to advance Trump’s business interests.
We won’t stop keeping track of these costs until the Trumps stop cashing in.
Thank you for standing with us,
Noah Bookbinder
