Older Adult Poverty Reaches an Unacceptable 14.1%
New data from the U.S. Census Bureau show poverty has increased among Americans age 65 and older, from 10.7% in 2021 to 14.1% in 2022. This is frustrating when solutions are available. Programs like Social Security, food assistance, and Supplemental Security Income lift millions of older adults out of poverty every year. NCOA President and CEO Ramsey Alwin offers suggestions for a path forward.
