Being a U.S. Senator is an important job, but I can’t get anything accomplished alone.

When I go to work in Washington to make progress for families back in Illinois, I need a strong Democratic majority full of champions for the American people who I know will have my back.

One colleague I know I can always count on is the Senator from Virginia, my friend Tim Kaine. We’re from different parts of the country, but we have a lot in common—including our love of baseball, music, and on the wonkier side, crafting good legislation to move our country forward.

Recently, Tim and I have worked together on everything from reforming our criminal justice system to taking on the gun lobby in our efforts to ban assault weapons. Tim is not only an invaluable advocate for the people of his state—he’s absolutely critical to our Senate majority.
