Faith’s mother ran a hotel in their Kenyan village that provided food service to nearby business owners. Often, Faith would come help her mother with the deliveries — a selfless act that soon took a turn into darkness.
One of the business owners that Faith delivered to was a well-known carpenter in the community. One evening when Faith was 15, the carpenter invited her in and assaulted her for the first time. As the assaults continued over time, the carpenter convinced her that their relationship was normal, even though he was twice her age. Faith became caught in a cycle of fear and abuse and was in desperate need of rescue.
Eventually learning about the abuse, Faith’s mother turned to IJM for help. Thanks to the support of our loyal Freedom Partners, Faith entered our aftercare program. It took years, but counseling finally healed the trauma Faith had lived with for so long.
Today she is attending a top university in Kenya, working part time as a social worker and caring for her young daughter.
