VIDEO OF THE DAY: Longtime aide flips on Trump, screws him in federal trial
The rats are fleeing the S.S. Trump and the latest to abandon him — his former executive assistant Molly Michael — has turned over damning information to federal investigators.

Federal criminal investigation into Elon Musk broadens time frame and scope
The Department of Justice is criminally investigating personal benefits that Tesla possibly supplied the billionaire tech bozo including the proposed construction of a literal glass house financed with company fund. There's also a civil investigation opened by the Securities and Exchange Commission. When it comes to abjectly amoral capitalist creeps like Musk, where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

It's push come to shove in the fight for safe abortion pills!
Center for Reproductive Rights: The maker of mifepristone has just filed an appeal to the Supreme Court to reverse the ruling that would cut off mail-order access to abortion pills, further curtailing access to abortion at a critical time for American women. This is a huge opportunity to restore access to abortion pills, but the legal battle is not going to be easy. Will you chip in to support the Center for Reproductive Rights and their fight to protect our access to medication abortion?
Biden gives UN speech urging the 2023 General Assembly to "preserve peace, prevent conflict"
Striking a radically different posture from his predecessor who regularly attacked our allies and weakened our standing in the world, the president emphasized unity and global cooperation as he addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He reiterated that Ukraine's interests are the United Nations' interests, and said the global body must "continue to preserve peace, prevent conflict, and alleviate human suffering." The president also touted efforts to connect India and Europe, normalize relations between Israel and its neighbors, strengthen African nations' infrastructure, and insisted he wants to "seek to responsibly manage" competition with China, not decouple from China.

"Sound of Freedom" producer felt the naked breasts of apparently underage trafficking victim
Fox News and the rest of the Republican evangelical industrial complex ran nonstop, breathless promotion of the QAnon-adjacent "anti-trafficking" film while accusing anyone critical of the movie and its highly questionable depiction of events of being pro-trafficking. Now, it turns out that Paul Hutchinson, an executive producer of the film, touched the naked breasts of an apparently underage trafficking victim during a 2016 undercover operation in Mexico. This comes on the heels of one of the movie's principal funders being arrested for child kidnapping and the founder of the group featured in the film, "Operation Underground Railroad," resigning from his own organization after facing sexual harassment allegations from seven women, on TOP of the credible allegations of having actually created a demand for child trafficking in his misguided efforts to rescue children. As with everything associated with American conservatism, hypocrisy and projection abound.

Hardliners block defense spending bill as GOP civil war worsens
Five members of the super-fascist wing of the already pretty fascist Republican Party — which is to say some of the lunatics in the Freedom Caucus who believe that Kevin McCarthy is not radical enough — blocked debate on their party’s defense spending bill on Tuesday, marking a stunning loss for the embattled Speaker. The development is a clear indication that the civil war within the GOP is escalating rather than cooling off, making it likelier by the day that the country will shoot past the deadline to agree on a federal budget by Oct. 31st, which would in turn trigger a disastrous government shutdown that will fall squarely on Kevin McCarthy.

Azerbaijan launches attack against Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh
Concerns about a second Armenian genocide are spreading after Azerbaijan announced an "anti-terrorist" campaign in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnic Armenian enclave within Azerbaijan. Already, at least 27 people have been killed and 200 wounded.
Ray Epps, subject of Tucker Carlson's Jan. 6 conspiracy theories, charged by DOJ
Yet another deranged MAGA conspiracy theory has dramatically imploded as an insurrectionist who Republicans — most notably the former Fox News host — accused of being a federal agent responsible for inciting a false flag attack at the Capitol was hit with one misdemeanor count, disorderly or disruptive conduct on restricted grounds. Unsurprisingly, rather than accepting that they were wrong about Eps being an undercover fed, Republicans are digging in their heels and insisting that the relatively tame nature of the charge proves that he's a fed. There's just no winning with these fanatics.
Pennsylvania adds automatic voter registration when renewing driver's licenses
Notching up yet another victory for American democracy, Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro announced that he is making it easier for someone to register to vote when they are getting or renewing a driver's license in Pennsylvania. Under the new format, prompts on the computer screens in driver's license centers will take the user to a template to register to vote. That leaves it up to them to choose not to register. Previously, prompts on the computer screen first asked the user whether they wanted to register to vote.
Planned Parenthood doctor relieved to be providing full range of services to patients again
Planned Parenthood has resumed offering abortion services in Wisconsin after halting them for more than a year due to the Republican-controlled Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Thankfully, the state now has a Democratic Supreme Court for the first time in fifteen years, giving Planned Parenthood confidence that they are safe to resume services — and doctors are rejoicing.
UAW prepares for more auto strikes by Friday if progress remains elusive
United Auto Workers members picketing in Michigan and Ohio urged union leaders to hold firm on their biggest demands on pay hikes and compensation as their first-ever strike against the Big Three automakers hit its fifth day. The UAW says that it will strike against more US plants on Friday if no serious progress is made in talks with automakers, implementing their plan to gradually increase the number of work stoppages as time goes on and the corpo fatcats dig their heels in. For the union makes us strong!
