The summer is just about over, kids are going back to school, and the fall season is right around the corner — what better time to spotlight three truly outstanding Democratic lawmakers who represent the people of Bergen and Passaic counties in District 38!

Today, we’re bringing you another spotlight on one of our best legislative teams — State Senator Joe Lagana, Assemblywoman Lisa Swain, and Assemblyman Chris Tully!

# [#]STATE SENATOR JOE LAGANA

# [#]Joe Lagana has represented the 38th District in the Senate since 2018 and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Labor Committee and a member of the Judiciary Committee. He was previously elected to the Assembly in 2013 and served three terms before moving up to the Senate. Prior to his legislative tenure, he was a member of the Paramus Borough Council for two years and served as Budget Chairman and Council President from 2012 to 2013.

The son of Italian immigrants and a lifelong New Jersey resident, Joe Lagana grew up in Bergen County and lives with his family in Paramus. He currently volunteers as a softball coach and is a loving husband and proud father to three girls.

ASSEMBLYWOMAN LISA SWAIN

# [#]Assemblywoman Lisa Swain is Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Vice-Chair of State and Local Government Committee, and a member of the Joint Budget Oversight and Women and Children Committees. Prior to running for Assembly, Lisa served on the Fair Lawn Borough Council for a decade, including two terms as Mayor.

During her time in office, she sponsored legislation codifying abortion rights establishing the New Jersey Siblings' Bill of Rights..

Lisa is an accomplished athlete and trainer and serves as a member of the USA Triathlon Team and the New Jersey Masters Track Club. She and her husband reside in Fair Lawn, where they raised their two now-adult daughters.

ASSEMBLYMAN CHRIS TULLY

# [#]Chris has been a member of the General Assembly since 2018, serving as Chair of the Science, Innovation, and Technology Committee, Vice-Chair of the Aging and Senior Services Committee, and a member of the Health Committee. He has also served as Deputy Majority Leader since January 2023. Assemblyman Tully served on the Borough of Bergenfield Council for eight years (2009 to 2017) and was Council President in 2011 and 2014.

While on the Bergenfield Council, where he served as both Council President and Finance Chair, Chris fought for middle-class taxpayers by maintaining services while delivering reduced debt and responsible budgets under the state's 2% tax cap. During his time in office, Bergenfield was also recognized as one of New Jersey’s safest communities and best communities to raise children.

A proud first-generation Irish American, Chris Tully was raised in Bergenfield, where he and his wife are active in the community, raising their son and volunteering for his local soccer team and Scout troop.

Senator Lagana, Assemblywoman Swain, and Assemblyman Tully are committed to making New Jersey more affordable by delivering more tax relief to the middle class and seniors, protecting abortion rights, stopping Republican attempts to restrict women’s health care decisions, and delivering progress on transportation issues like fixing the Route 17 bottleneck and improving NJ TRANSIT.
