Hi Friend, Peter Williams here, former broadcaster and long-time supporter of your Taxpayers’ Union.
I’m emailing to ask you to join me in support the Taxpayers’ Union and their work fighting divisive ‘co-government’ and promoting democratic accountability.
Can you spare a dollar, Friend? <[link removed]>
While it may seem trite to ask for a single dollar, the Taxpayers’ Union relies solely on donations from supporters like you and me – hard-working decent kiwis who value the work. <[link removed]> Alone we can achieve little, but collectively, we enable Jordan, Callum and the team to fight the vested interests and uncover what our media are (sadly) not.
Right now, the Taxpayers’ Union is actively working to defend democratic accountability that my generation took for granted. You may have seen the recent Freshwater Strategy/Stuff poll whereby a resounding 48% of those polled, want the matter of co-governance to go to a referendum. A further 34% opted to stay neutral. Only 11% did not want the matter to go to a referendum. Compared to just twelve months ago, that is an enormous change.
Thank goodness for Jordan and the team being willing to lead the fight against Three Waters. Despite all the attempts by Nanaia Mahuta, Willie Jackson, and their colleagues to shout down the debate and label those fighting for democratic accountability as something we are not, it did not work. Instead the efforts of the Taxpayers’ Union have enabled the debate we needed to have and (most importantly) shifted public opinion against ‘co-governance’ and muddled accountability by those who spend our taxpayer dollars.
I can’t tell you how depressing it was 18 months ago when I first joined the Board of the Taxpayers’ Union seeing polling that suggested most New Zealander’s supported co-governance. Thanks to the Taxpayers’ Union, most now understand what co-governance actually means. That’s why the polls are changing.
But with Christopher Luxon still trying to avoid this issue now is the time to double down, rather than relent. That’s why I’m emailing you today to ask for you to join me as a financial supporter to the Taxpayers’ Union. <[link removed]>
Friend, the next few months are the do-or-die in terms of whether Labour’s anti-democratic frameworks are rolled back. Only democratic accountability (rather than Three Waters-style ‘co-governance’) is the way forward if we are to protect New Zealand’s prosperity and equality of opportunity for our kids.
I am asking for your assistance so the Taxpayers’ Union can continue the fight and raise public awareness of these issues by chipping in just $1 dollar. Only with our support can the Taxpayers’ Union continue with their critical work. <[link removed]>
The more New Zealanders we have on board, the larger the watchdog on Wellington and their special interests. <[link removed]> We are shifting the dial but even if there is a change of Government next month, whoever is in charge – Christopher Luxon, David Seymour, or Winston Peters – will be fighting media, bureaucracy, and elite determined to continue furthering their undemocratic agenda. That’s why the work must continue and your support is needed more than ever.
Will you donate just one dollar so we can keep up the fight for democratic accountability? <[link removed]>
>> Yes, I’ll chip in a buck or more << <[link removed]>
Thank you for your support.
Peter Williams
Financial Supporter and Former Board Member
New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union
P.S. One of the things that drew me into the Taxpayers’ Union is their crowd-funded efforts. Ironically, it is usually our opponents who are funded by a small number of individuals or, often, take Government funding! Unlike them, the Taxpayers’ Union relies on supporters like you to fuel their efforts and make the policy victories possible. So I hope you will join me by chipping in what you can. <[link removed]>
