John,

Billionaires have been quietly working to influence the Supreme Court for years, and some of the right-wing justices on the Court have proved quite amenable to those billionaires’ outreach. The justices have accepted gifts, free luxury vacations worth over $500,000, and private yacht and jet excursions – all of which they failed to disclose – from Republican dark-money megadonors who are part of the same apparatus that helped get the justices on the Court in the first place.

It’s no wonder corporate and billionaire interests have a winning record when they end up before the Supreme Court. Regular people don’t have much of a shot.

The Court has barely acknowledged, much less investigated, these apparent ethical problems. But Congressman Hank Johnson and I wrote the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act to require SCOTUS to adopt stricter disclosure rules and create a process for investigating possible misconduct.

Hank and I have long been Congress’ leading voices for improving transparency and accountability at the Supreme Court. The SCERT Act – which just made it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee – would help rebuild trust in the Supreme Court. But our work is far from over.

So I’m asking: Can you split a $5 donation between my campaign and Congressman Johnson’s so we can keep working together to restore the integrity of the Supreme Court? [[link removed]]
