John, an appeals court struck down Alabama’s congressional maps for violating the Voting Rights Act.

This is a win for our democracy, John.
JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST VOTER SUPPRESSION [[link removed]]
Alabama’s Republican-controlled legislature is trying to gerrymander the state’s maps to silence Black voters, give the GOP an unfair advantage in coming elections, and secure GOP power.
This isn’t just happening in Alabama though. Over 300 voting restrictions have been introduced in states across the country this year. And there are other legislatures across the country -- including South Carolina’s -- that are, like Alabama, trying to gerrymander maps for politicians’ benefit at the expense of voters.
As a civil rights organizer who fought to get the Voting Rights Act of 1965 signed into law, I speak from experience when I say gerrymandering and voter suppression are the new Jim Crow.
They are designed to shut out voters of color from participating in our democracy the same way Jim Crow was designed to shut out Black Americans from public life -- schools, bathrooms, drugstores, lunch counters, voting booths.
What’s happening in Alabama should serve as a reminder to South Carolina and states across the country that every voter has a voice that must be heard at the ballot box.
I’m working with Democrats in Congress to combat voter suppression and end partisan gerrymandering, and there’s momentum behind our efforts.
We need to keep the pressure up, John. Will you add your name and show your support for our efforts to combat gerrymandering and voter suppression? [[link removed]]
Thank you,
Jim
