February 28, 2020
Dear John,
The 2020 Census is coming! I want to make sure that every North Texan is ready to stand up and be counted. As your Congressman, I’ve traveled around the district meeting with folks and I know there are many questions about the Census, so let’s take a look at what you need to know.
What is the Census?
Every ten years the U.S. carries out the census in order to count every single person living in the United States. It is so important that our founders included it in the Constitution.
Why does it matter that I complete the census and be counted?
It is crucial that every North Texan complete Census 2020 because it will provide data that will determine how much federal funding North Texas receives and where our congressional districts are drawn. An accurate census will make an enormous impact on North Texas for at least the next decade by informing decisions about allocating federal funding for hospitals, fire departments, school lunch programs, and other critical programs and services. Those funds directly improve our children’s health, support public schools and housing, assist senior citizens and working families, finance highway and bridge improvements, and so much more.
How do I make sure I’m counted?
It is easy. The Census Bureau will start sending mail to inform you how to complete the census. By April 1, 2020, every household will have received an invitation to participate. You can respond by mail, phone or online.

My goal is a 100 percent participation rate for Census 2020! I was born and raised in North Texas and I want to make sure our region gets the federal funding and representation it deserves. Census 2020 is vital to our schools, roads, health care, and the overall quality of life for every North Texan.

Thank you for your commitment to making sure North Texas communities are represented in the 2020 census. We’re going to need each and every one of you to stand up and be counted.
Sincerely,
Colin Allred Member of Congress
