CLEAN ENERGY INSIDER
SEPTEMBER 19, 2023
REAMS REPORT

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are in the final countdown to the 7th Annual National Clean Energy Week (NCEW)!

In less than one week, we will celebrate clean energy innovation and learn from elected officials, business leaders, advocates, policymakers, investors, and trade associations from all perspectives who are dedicated to advancing clean energy at the FREE 2023 Policymakers Symposium.

This year’s agenda is packed with experienced speakers and panelists, including a bipartisan list of congressional and administration speakers, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Senate Natural Resources Chairman Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Deputy Secretary David Turk, and more. And for the first time since 2019, the three-day event will offer one day of in-person programming.

The foundation of NCEW is bipartisanship. Collaboration from both sides of the aisle is necessary for executing policies that strengthen the economy and grow clean energy innovation and adoption in the long term. NCEW provides a space for these conversations that ultimately move us towards a cleaner future.

WHAT CRES IS HEARING

“So freezing the development of clean and reliable energy here at home does nothing more than kick production of more expensive and less reliable fuels into overdrive overseas. You can guarantee fuels won’t be climate conscious or environmentally sound when they come from hostile regimes overseas.“ — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on the Senate floor on the importance of American energy development.

––

“We must ensure American families have the freedom of reliable, affordable, and efficient energy sources." — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) at recent Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security legislative hearing.

––

Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah) joined the Sutherland Institute podcast, Defending Ideas, to discuss the demand for clean energy in today's marketplace and the future of clean energy in the United States. Listen to the full podcast here.

WHAT CRES IS SAYING

"This is where we put our bipartisan hats on, and we show the progress of Republicans and Democrats working together on commonsense policy.” — CRES President Heather Reams on the RepublicEn EcoRight Speaks podcast discussing National Clean Energy Week. Listen to the full podcast here.

WHAT CRES IS DOING

Last week, CRES VP of Government Relations Shawn Affolter traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, to attend and speak at the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) Conference. Shawn provided a conservative perspective on the state of politics in Washington. He highlighted that Republicans recognize the United States is one of the most carbon-efficient economies in the world, and when we produce, global emissions go down. The panel explored how the partisan passage of the Inflation Reduction Act has impacted the solar industry and the work CRES is doing to depoliticize tax credits, which historically enjoyed bipartisan support.
