Dear Friend,
I’d like to share an alarming statistic with you. According to Brookings, an examination of wealth in the U.S. finds that the net worth of a typical white family is nearly ten times greater than that of a Black family.
The legacy of slavery and Jim Crow continue to cast their long shadows on communities of color. Structural racism in education, employment, and public benefits systems leave people of color behind. And people of color are at much higher risk of having a fatal encounter during a police stop.
We believe that true economic justice cannot be achieved until racist laws and practices are dismantled from the root.
We established the NCLEJ Racial Justice Fund to provide dedicated support for this critical mission. Our racial justice advocacy goes far beyond litigation. We prioritize supporting the critical work of grassroots movements organizing to build power in their communities.
