** Gwynne welcomes accessibility funding for Fairfield Station
------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has welcomed investment that should see accessibility improvements at Fairfield Station in Audenshaw.
Fairfield currently does not have step free access, staff help or wheelchairs available. It was announced this week as one of 124 stations to receive funding to improve accessibility.
Gwynne has campaigned for better disabled access at both Fairfield Station and Reddish North. Whilst Fairfield will see accessibility improved, Reddish North will remain without step free access or wheelchair availability.
Andrew Gwynne said:
“I am delighted that Fairfield Station is in line for funding to improve accessibility. It is vital that our railways can be used by everybody and that’s why I have campaigned on this issue.
“However, it is disappointing that Reddish North station – which also has accessibility issues – has not been designated any funding and I will continue to push for the funding needed to improve disabled access there.”
Speaking on behalf of Audenshaw’s councillors, Councillor Teresa Smith said:
“This is great news for Audenshaw’s residents and commuters and Councillor Oliver Ryan, Councillor Charlotte Martin and I welcome it.
“It’s about time the government invested in our station after years of under investment and after successful lobbying by us as councillors and our local MP.
“Fairfield serves the whole area and the Kings Road/Boothdale new housing estates. Audenshaw continues to be a great and improving place to live, work and raise a family.”
** Gwynne encourages constituents to have their say on parking in Tameside
------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, is encouraging constituents to have their say on council off-street parking in Tameside.
Council off-street parking is an important council-supplied service which provides all visitors to Tameside with access to local shops, leisure facilities, open spaces and vital services. The local economy would not be able to operate effectively without it.
From time to time, a review of the service needs to be conducted to ensure that it is still fit for purpose. That time has now arrived. Until Friday 27 March 2020, Tameside Council are running a listening exercise through the council website.
Andrew Gywnne said:
“I would encourage all of my constituents in Tameside and beyond to participate in the survey on council off-street parking in Tameside.
“How council off-street parking operates is important to both the local economy and the local environment.
“It is important that constituents have their say on the service to help develop a fair, viable and sustainable future for council off-street parking in Tameside.”

** Please support local charity Syria Relief
------------------------------------------------------------
Communities come in all different shapes and sizes. Tameside itself is a community, but it also contains nine distinct towns and hundreds of smaller communities – based around parts of towns, streets, religious and community groups and so on. We spend so long in our communities that it can be easy to forget that we are also part of one big global community.
You might roll your eyes at that phrase “global community” – after all, how can you be part of a community if you’ll never even see the vast majority of the other people in it, let alone get to know them? Well, for a start, improvements in technology and transport make it easier than ever to make connections with people on the other side of the planet. But more than this, what happens in another country can have a major impact on us here in Tameside – this could be pollution that leads to climate change, the outbreak of deadly viruses or terrible conflicts that drive people out of their home countries.
Like any good community, we are at our best when we look out for one another and that’s why I’m so proud to support the charity Syria Relief, which is based just down the road from my constituency office in Denton. The civil war in Syria will soon be entering its tenth year and, in that time, hundreds of thousands have been killed and millions more have been displaced. So many lives have been ruined by this terrible conflict but it’s all too easy here in the UK to forget that it’s happening because it’s no longer on our TV screens every night.
That’s why Syria Relief’s work is so important. The charity provides aid to more than 1.8 million Syrians in need, including food packs, essential life-saving medical items and schools. This work is so vital, but unfortunately it’s also dangerous. Just last week one of their aid workers at a school that they set up was tragically killed.
Whilst the Syria conflict may seem remote, we should never forget the terrible suffering of people there. Millions of people are trapped in a living nightmare just because of where they were born and, at the moment, it’s not clear that there’s any end in sight. For their sakes, I’d encourage you all to support the amazing work that Syria Relief does if you can.

Andrew in the Constituency
I had a fantastic time at the Civic Mayor's Charity Ball with Mayor of Tameside Leigh Drennan. Hopefully it raised a lot of money for some very worthy causes.
Great morning visiting Ashton Sixth Form College to hear about some of the issues affecting the further education sector, their future plans to expand the college and also a visit to the new Arts Block. Thanks for your time!
Well we started a Friday:Reconnect doorstep session in Denton West today, where we speak to local residents about issues or problems... but it soon started sleeting heavily!
It was great to have been invited to attend the Greater Manchester Asian Business Leaders’ Awards and present the first award. This is a huge event at the fantastic Vermilion in east Manchester, and celebrates the best of Asian businesses across Greater Manchester.

But it was my pleasure to join representatives from Sense to learn more about the challenges faced by those with complex disabilities. We need to ensure nobody is left out of life.

📺 WATCH: Ministers are boasting about increased funding for local government, but unfortunately they're employing smoke and mirrors on that one. Watch to the end to see what I thought of the response to my question at this week's Communities and Local Government Questions.
Always great to meet with the IFAW to discuss the fantastic work they do on animal welfare and conservation around the world. It’s time for the Government to give the National Wildlife Crime Unit the permanent funding it needs to protect animals and catch criminals

📺 WATCH: On Monday, I spoke from the frontbench in a debate on the Local Government Finance Settlement, which sets out funding for councils in the coming year.
As the Tories boast of increasing funds for Councils for the first time in a decade, they don’t tell you this depends entirely on increasing Council Tax.
Let’s hope the same Tories don’t then attack Councils for doing as ordered come the local elections...
I spent some time this week with my colleague Barbara Keeley and the fantastic Keir Starmer Camden Town phone bank volunteers, phoning and speaking with Labour members about the Leadership election.

📺 WATCH: The Prime Minister is always talking about "levelling up" but he's not playing a video game, we're talking about real impacts on real people.
Here I am closing Tuesday's debate on social care.
