Record-setting extreme weather events are getting more frequent.
John,
Extreme weather events are costing our country big time, and it’s only getting worse: We’ve already surpassed the record of most number of billion-dollar extreme weather events in a year, and that’s with more than three months of 2023 still to go.
Including Hurricane Idalia, 23 extreme weather events have cost the US over $1 billion in damages each, surpassing$57 billion in damages total. And as these events continue to get more extreme and happen more frequently, we know these costs will continue to climb.
John, it’s becoming increasingly clear: The cost of fighting climate change is nothing compared to the cost of these extreme weather events.
Spending money to repair damages and rebuild after extreme weather events is simply less cost-effective than tackling the root cause: climate change. That’s why SEEC Members are fighting in Congress to promote pro-climate policies, but they need our help.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
