John,

Because caring people like you want to end human trafficking, we’re making real progress. Thank you for being part of this social justice movement.

I hope you’ll be inspired by a few of our recent wins! They include:

TRAFFICKING HOTLINE 2.0

Compared to the Trafficking Hotline’s first year, we are answering 35 TIMES as many monthly contacts via call, text, webchat, email, and online forms! To ensure we continue offering the best possible service to victims and survivors, we launched the Hotline Optimization Project (HOP). We’ve modernized technologies, increased efficiencies, and improved our frontline staff experience.

Each month in 2022 (on average) the National Human Trafficking Hotline:

  • Responded to 4,821 contacts
  • Assisted 504 potential victims or survivors, up from 400+ the previous year
  • Provided 800+ referrals to support survivors, including connections to community-based services, law enforcement, and legal assistance.

LISTENING TO SURVIVORS

The first-ever National Survivor Study (NSS) was a milestone moment for listening to and learning from survivors — and today it informs everything we do.

Trafficking survivors led this project at every step. Not only is it the first study to focus on survivors’ futures, but it has also proven that survivor-led research is both possible and valid.

Here’s what one survivor wants to share with you:

As I read the results of the study, I was so emotionally moved and brought to tears.

Thank you for shining a light on the magnitude of misconceptions, systemic struggles, and so many issues I blamed myself for. This has helped me in my healing from the stigma, shame, and post-traumatic stress.

Thank you for helping all of us survivors finally realize that we are not alone.

FOLLOWING THE MONEY

Our Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) partners with financial institutions and law enforcement to disrupt trafficking operations, making the crime riskier and less profitable for traffickers.

Last year the FIU:

  • Supported nine financial institution partners
  • Increased trafficking intelligence by 25% over the previous year
  • Identified 122 businesses and 105 individuals suspected of trafficking
  • Informed financial and law enforcement investigations — including an FBI investigation on a network of companies laundering money, engaging in sex and labor trafficking, and linked to extremist groups

Allies like YOU can create future wins like these. Together, we CAN build a world where everyone is free.

With appreciation,
