From the very beginning of the impeachment process, congressional Republicans worked to dismiss serious concerns about the president’s corrupt behavior, even though it will have lasting impacts on our national security. By refusing to even hear from key witnesses or require production of crucial documents, Sen. Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans made a sham of the trial.

Earlier this month, PFAW members and other activists rallied in Washington, D.C. and in 300 communities across the country to denounce the failure of the Senate to remove Donald Trump from office.

Restoring the American Way Begins
with Taking Back the Senate

Regardless of who wins the Democratic nomination for president, if we fail to take back the Senate this November it may very well result in worsened partisan gridlock.

If Republicans maintain their Senate majority, ANY Democratic president will find it increasingly difficult to advance their policy proposals, as Senate Republicans will do everything possible to stall, derail, and cheat a Democratic president from restoring a progressive vision for the country.

Mitch McConnell and other Congressional Republicans have demonstrated again and again that they can't be trusted to work in a fair and bipartisan manner -- and we should fully expect the same behavior in 2021 if we fail to take back the Senate and maintain our majoriy in the House.

I know you've heard us say it before, but this election is the most important our nation has seen in generations and we need your support before our critical end of month deadline.

President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address provided him with one more opportunity to deliver his favorite bogus claims about how everything in the U.S. under his leadership is bigger than ever, better than ever, stronger than ever. In reality, Trump and his policies are making life harder for millions of people, undermining American ideals, and weakening our ability as a nation to come together around solutions to urgent problems facing the country and the world.

PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker provides remarks at a House briefing on the Democracy For All Amendment

Earlier this month, the House Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties held the historic first hearing in the House on the Democracy For All Amendment. This amendment would write core protections for democratic election finance reform into the Constitution to overturn the harms done by the Supreme Court in the 2010 decision in Citizens United v. F.E.C. and related cases.

This hearing marked a crucial milestone in the fight to get money out of politics and speaks to the power of the grassroots movement we’ve been building together over the last decade.

This month the Trump administration escalated its racist attacks on immigrants and people of color on multiple fronts.

Earlier this month, the administration expanded their racist and Islamaphobic travel ban to include seven additional Middle East and African countries, while also aggressively expanding a policy at the Department of Justice that could be weaponized to denaturalize immigrants they deem unfit to be citizens of the United States.

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson celebrated the success of “godly” activists working behind the scenes to get right-wing judges nominated to the federal court, saying, “They’re literally changing the nature of the judiciary.”
