Demand CR includes Secure the Border
Dear John,
Momentum continues to Build! It's time for the House of Representatives to take the next step to make sure the continuing resolution (CR) includes The Secure the Border Act!
Two weeks ago, I wrote explaining how the budget vs. border security battle was looming in Congress and asked you to contact your Representative in the House to let them know you want them to support a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government fully funded ONLY if they append the CR with H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which passed the House earlier this year.
Last week, your efforts got a huge lift as Senator Ted Cruz took the lead and introduced the Secure the Border Act of 2023 in the Senate! This was followed by cosponsorship of the bill by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and an additional 25 Senators. I asked you last week to press your Senators to support the Senate Secure the Border Act of 2023 and to demand that Senator Chuck Schumer allow it to come to the floor.
This week, the fruits of your efforts are showing as the Republicans in the House of Representatives will reach across the spectrum of their caucus and across the aisle to border security minded Democrats to vote to pass a Continuing Resolution that includes a modified H.R. 2. The modification includes everything to secure the border except E-Verify which takes away the jobs magnet. Even without E-Verify, the modified version includes critical reforms to end the asylum and parole abuse that are directly responsible for the current border crisis. (NumbersUSA continues to push mandatory E-Verify on the federal and state levels.)
Meanwhile, the Senate companion bill to H.R. 2, S. 2824, was introduced by Senator Ted Cruz. If you haven't acted on asking your Senator to cosponsor S.2824, do so now!
