Dear Friends and Neighbors, Democrats have double downed on their controversial new restrictions on School Resource Officers despite widespread backlash from schools and law enforcement agencies as we see more and more officers pulled out of schools. Governor Walz, while initially receptive to the possibility of a special session to address the issue, has since caved to far-left legislators within his party who oppose making any changes to the new law. 44 Democrat lawmakers recently signed a letter to Governor Walz opposing a special session or any changes to the SRO law. These Democrats have refused to listen to the numerous schools and law enforcement agencies pleading for the law to be altered to allow SROs to keep our schools safe. For the legislators below, taking a firm stance against law enforcement to appease far-left activists is a higher priority than school safety. Despite there being 60 Democrat legislators who did not sign this letter, and 97 Republican legislators in opposition to this law, Governor Walz conceded to the most extreme elements of his party and has since reversed his openness to a special session. | A couple recent incidents occurred that remind us of how important it is to have police officers in our schools. Earlier this month, a student at Mankato East High School was brutally assaulted on campus leaving him with a blood clot in his right eye and damage to his rib cage. Due to the new Democrat SRO law, the school no longer had an officer and was forced into lockdown for half an hour as the police responded to the incident. | Edina High School and Valley View Middle School temporarily switched to online classes last week in response to a shooting threat made outside the high school with a handgun. Thankfully, the threat never materialized and a 17 year old was arrested the following day for making the threat. The Edina Police Department has continued to provide SROs despite the controversial new law. The Democrat representing Edina in the Senate, was one of the 44 legislators signed onto the letter supporting the new SRO restrictions. | STAYING IN TOUCH Each and every day I’m continuously humbled at the opportunity to represent and fight for the values and priorities of our great community!
