17 Years Ago...

This week marks 17 years since I became a citizen of this great nation. 

My father moves our entire family to America for a new start - we immerse in the culture, learn English, my dad drives a bus to provide for his family. We take the oath of citizenship and a few years later, his son becomes a member of the United States Congress, the first immigrant from Mexico to do so in Arizona’s history. 

Where else in the world can you have our story? Nowhere else. Only in America.

A country where I interned with a green card on Capitol Hill and returned to our nation's Capital 20 years later with a green member pin.

I am grateful to this nation. It offered my family - and many others - the gift of opportunity. I firmly believe in the American Dream. I believe it’s alive. I am fighting to preserve that Dream for my kids and yours.
