“The Senate blue brick wall was the only thing that stopped us [in] the last two years from banning abortion in Virginia.” – Susan Swecker, Chair of the Virginia Democratic Party

She’s right, folks.
Ever since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Republicans in the House of Delegates have been introducing measure after measure to restrict reproductive rights in Virginia. In January of this year, Virginia Senate Democrats defeated several of these bills that would have restricted abortion access in the state.
That wasn’t their first attempt and it definitely won’t be the last. If the GOP holds on to the House of Delegates and takes over the Virginia Senate in November, there’s nothing stopping them from getting a bill restricting abortion across the finish line.
It’s simple folks: If we want to protect access to abortion in the Commonwealth, we need to give Democrats the support they need to flip the House of Delegates and expand their majority in the Virginia Senate. Can you split a $5 contribution with the Democratic Party of Virginia to help us get it done?
I acknowledge that I’m writing to you a lot about what a GOP majority in the General Assembly would mean for abortion access. I just can’t emphasize enough how crucial it is that until we can expand our Democratic Senate majority in Washington and secure the votes we need to codify Roe into law, the first battle to safeguard reproductive rights for the entirety of the South is happening right here at home.
