Indivisibles,
Have you been hearing a lot more about the sham Biden impeachment than the
potential for a government shutdown on September 30? We sure have.
Last Tuesday, Kevin McCarthy decided to proceed with his [ [link removed] ]empty
impeachment inquiry without a floor vote in the House. Why do it without a
vote? McCarthy couldn’t be sure that all of his caucus would go along with
the inquiry because some Republicans recognize that the [ [link removed] ]impeachment is
based on no evidence and others are scared because they represent
districts Biden won in 2020 and are on thin ice.
So why proceed?
These are classic, Trump-era, MAGA tactics to distract their base with
misinformation while they attack the programs and support all Americans so
desperately need -- government funding.
If Congress does not pass a funding bill by September 30, the government
will shut down. That means essential services for seniors, servicemembers,
and working families will be shuttered as “non-essential” workers are
furloughed and “essential” workers are forced to continue to work without
pay. President Biden and the Senate are prepared to forge forward on a
funding bill, but House Republicans are being intransigent.
When Kevin McCarthy sold out to the Freedom Caucus to secure the
speakership on the 15th ballot, we knew that extremists like Marjorie
Taylor Greene were going to be able to wield a dangerous amount of power
over the House. The fight over government funding is one of the clearest
examples of this power coming into play. These MAGA extremists are using
their influence to push Republicans to make major cuts to programs like
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and attack abortion
access…again.
All of this is playing out after Republicans already came to an agreement
about government funding during the debt ceiling fight proving once again
that the word of MAGA extremists is worth nothing.
Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing a lot of our energy on
pointing out the absurdity of the impeachment inquiry, pressuring
[ [link removed] ]vulnerable Republicans to avert a shutdown, and, in the case that a
shutdown occurs, making sure to hold those Republicans responsible for the
abdication of their basic duties to the American people in order to help
Trump get revenge for his legitimate impeachment and distract from his 91
felony counts.
Join us for our [ [link removed] ]National Campaigns Call this Thursday, September 21 to
learn more about how you can get involved in fighting back.
With that, here are your weekly to-dos:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your weekly to-dos
1. [ [link removed] ]RSVP for our National Campaigns Call this Thursday, September 21 at
8pm ET. Indivisible Action and Indivisible Project have had a
substantial impact on every election cycle since their beginning, and
that continues to be the case. On this call, we’ll delve into the
pivotal November ballot issue election in Ohio, shed some light on the
real possibility of a government shutdown, and introduce the new and
exciting primary program.
2. If your representative is a Democrat, [ [link removed] ]call them now and ask them to
champion reproductive freedom and protect abortion access. Last week,
we introduced our new [ [link removed] ]Reproductive Freedom Agenda to not only
codify Roe, but also extend protections for reproductive freedoms even
further. We need all Democrats in the House to cosponsor the entire
agenda. Each bill is important on its own, but together they combine
to create comprehensive protections for abortion access and care. Once
you’ve called, [ [link removed] ]write a letter to the editor (LTE) to your local
newspapers encouraging your representative to be a reproductive
freedom champion.
3. If your Democratic representative has already signed on to cosponsor
all three bills, [ [link removed] ]submit an LTE thanking them for being a
reproductive freedom champion. Our representatives, and their
constituents, need to know when we’re proud of their work. Write an
LTE to let them know. Make sure to encourage your representative to
keep showing up for reproductive freedom by publicly showing your
support.
P.S. If you've completed your weekly to-do's and are looking for more ways
to support this movement, [ [link removed] ]consider making a donation today. Your
contribution will help keep our call pages up and running, fund the tools
we use to mobilize volunteers, and continue all the work we're doing this
year.

[13]WE LOVE TO SEE IT!
***In the 2023 Indivisible Guide, one of the most important things we
wanted to see was our representatives show up as fighters! We need
representatives that work for the people, not just their bank accounts
and special interests! So, why not highlight those fighters? We Love To
See It! will highlight the work being done by reps fighting for everyday
people’s well being, advancing democracy, and/or protecting personal
freedoms. Let’s stand up for our representatives when they stand up for
us! We Love To See It!***
Rep. Katherine Clark, MA-05
[ [link removed] ]Tweet from Rep. Clark with a paused clip of her at the lectern. Reads:
'Kevin McCarthy has lost control of the gavel. This is an impeachment
inquiry founded on conspiracy theories and debunked lies. MAGA extremists
are running the House.'
Speaking of the groundless impeachment inquiry, House Minority Whip
Katherine Clark gave a succinct and brilliant takedown of MAGA extremists’
control over the Republican House and their focus on pursuing “conspiracy
theories and debunked lies” rather than doing the work the American people
sent them to Congress to do.
In speaking to the heart of the matter, Rep. Clark says, “Donald Trump is
the ultimate puppet master. Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling the shots.
They ignore their constituents. And they have purged their ranks of anyone
who can call themselves a moderate." [ [link removed] ]Take a moment to watch the whole
clip here.
**Bonus Points: If you see your rep showing up as a fighter and want to
highlight them, reply to this email with a link to the story and we
might feature it in our next Newsletter.**

Indivisible Project Updates: SCOTUS Accountability
The Supreme Court continues to show itself as a massive ball of
corruption. Whether it’s Justice Thomas accepting millions of dollars in
lavish gifts, travel, and more to the extent that he had to file a
[ [link removed] ]corrections section in his most recent disclosure form, or Justice
Alito proclaiming that “No provision in the Constitution gives [Congress]
the authority to regulate the Supreme Court -- period” in the [ [link removed] ]Wall
Street Journal, we find ourselves in a SCOTUS legitimacy crisis of the
MAGA justices’ own making.
But, Congress does, in fact, have the constitutional authority to restore
integrity to the court.
That’s why Indivisible Project is partnering across the movement to send a
letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Judiciary
Committee Chair Dick Durbin urging them to address these instances of
blatant corruption. The Senate has no choice but to subpoena Justices
Thomas, Alito, and their billionaire benefactors as well as launch a
full-scale investigation in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and other
relevant committees, into the ethical crisis engulfing the Supreme Court.
[ [link removed] ]Sign Indivisible Project’s letter asking Sen. Schumer and Sen. Durbin
to do just that!

**A note** Indivisible Project does not ask you to sign petitions, and
that’s not what we’re asking for here. Petitions often don’t go anywhere
and have no target for change -- they’re used to recruit supporters for
contact lists and otherwise languish, never to be seen by your
representatives. We’re going to take this letter, with all of your
signatures, and hand-deliver it to Leader Schumer and Chairman Durbin.
This is about action, not recruitment.
[ [link removed] ]The sign on period closes September 28. Sign now and tell Senate Dems:
Enough is enough. It’s time to hold corrupt justices accountable. It’s
time to start issuing subpoenas.
