john —
Tommy Tuberville, a Senator from Alabama, has single-handedly blocked hundreds of military appointments for months. And if you’re wondering why, it’s because he’s protesting abortion-related travel policies for servicemembers.
Right now, military personnel who are stationed in states where abortion is banned (like Alabama) may be reimbursed for travel expenses to receive abortions in other states.
Apparently, Tommy Tuberville does not like giving servicemembers the right to make decisions about their health care — and as a result, he’s using partisan tactics to block military nominations.
This is an affront to our national security, but Tuberville is still not budging.
Numerous top military positions are vacant because of this blockade. Admiral Lisa Franchetti, who is nominated to be head of the U.S. Navy, said it will take years to recover from these delays.
Tuberville persists in blocking promotions — and his GOP colleagues remain quiet about his political publicity stunt impacting millions of our military personnel nationwide.
I’ve had enough — I’m calling on Tommy Tuberville to stop using military promotions as a political bargaining chip. If you agree with me, add your name alongside mine in our efforts to get him to stand down and let the Senate vote on these critical military nominations.
Thank you for raising your voice on this issue. I’m sick and tired of Tommy Tuberville’s downright dangerous behavior.
