I am incredibly selective of my candidates and these clients almost exclusively come to me through word of mouth; they reach out to me, I don’t reach out to them.
However, when I saw that a woman named Britt from the town I call home, Hammond, Louisiana, was taking on the extreme right-wing MAGA State Senator who represents our area, I was beyond intrigued and knew I had to meet her.
I reached out to some friends who knew her and were involved with her campaign and scheduled a meet. When we met I was pleased to find a sincere, grounded, working mom who cares deeply about her community and her state.
What impressed me the most was that she had moved back to Hammond after living out of state - Atlanta - where she worked on the front lines of a woman’s clinic. She could have stayed where she was and probably done a lot better financially, but because she cares so deeply about our community she moved back.
I told her right then and there that I wanted to work for her campaign and help her make a difference - I have been managing her campaign ever since.
Over the last few years I have seen a divisiveness enter our state that was not here before. In Louisiana we eat, we drink, we party, and we get along. No one ever used to talk about the LGBTQ community, transgender people, or women and their right to make decisions about their bodies, with hatred and vitriol or discuss infringing upon their rights
But now because of the role of divisive national politics trickling down to our state I hear people, including Britt’s opponent Senator Beth Mizell, preaching hatred and non-acceptance towards these communities who are just as Louisianan as they are.
Being patriotic also used to mean something here in Louisiana yet Beth Mizell thinks those who participated in the January 6th insurrection should not be prosecuted and went so far as to send out a letter to the Department of Justice advocating for just that.
I support Britt because she embodies what it means to truly be a Lousianan - accepting of everyone and willing to fight for all of her constituents.
