Japan prohibits all corporal punishment of children!


On 20 February 2020, guidelines were published which confirm that Japan has prohibited all corporal punishment of children through amendments enacted in June 2019. The reforms will come into force on 1 April 2020, making Japan the 59th state worldwide - and second in East Asia - to realise children's right to equal protection from assault.

This great news brings the global child population protected by law from corporal punishment to 13%. Huge numbers of children around the world are still waiting for the realisation of their basic human right to protection from violent punishment.
