Hi,

Yet another bombshell report is out about the obscene corruption on the
Supreme Court.

A new Politico investigation details how Ginni Thomas, wife of Justice
Clarence Thomas, conspired to take advantage of the Citizens United ruling
months before it was released.^1

It's like she knew what was coming, securing half a million dollars from
Republican megadonor Harlan Crow to lead a front group before the rest of
us knew that the Supreme Court was about to unleash a flood of unlimited
corporate money into American politics. And, of course, her husband never
recused himself from any of the relevant cases.

Enough is enough. This is just the latest scandal to show why the Supreme
Court needs a binding code of ethics. That’s why we’re redoubling our
efforts to demand that the Senate pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal,
and Transparency Act.

The latest Politico story reads like an mashup of all the previous Supreme
Court scandals reported to date — especially when it comes to the
Thomases.

There’s Harlan Crow — the real estate magnate who’s lavished the Thomas
family with opulent vacations and gifts for decades — providing the seed
money for a dark-money group that would morph over the years and skirt
campaign finance law.

There’s the architect of the far-right court, Leonard Leo, pulling all the
strings, including paying Ms. Thomas $100,000 for work she may or may not
have performed.

And there’s Justice Thomas himself, seldom reporting the largesse bestowed
on his wife, never recusing himself, and voting with her and her
conspirators every single time on matters ranging from the Affordable Care
Act to "the Big Lie.”

Even an emeritus scholar at the ultraconservative American Enterprise
Institute was aghast at the findings. “This stinks to high heaven,” he
wrote. “Leonard Leo and Ginni Thomas are despicable.”^2

We’re grateful for the reporters uncovering all the Supreme Court’s dirt,
but now it’s time for Congress to clean it up.

That’s why Demand Progress Action has mobilized more than 100,000 people
to demand that Congress pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and
Transparency Act.
