Insurrectionists shouldn't be in office! Sign the petition to demand that elected officials disqualify all insurrectionists from the ballot.

Add your name to the petition: ALL insurrectionists should be disqualified from running for office again!

Dear MoveOn member,

Two and a half years after the violent, white supremacist-led insurrection on the Capitol on January 6, and we have yet to see full accountability for those involved in the Capitol riot and the election denialism that led to that dark day.

Election deniers and insurrectionists are still attempting to cling to power, but we are gaining momentum, and we can stop them: In September 2022, a New Mexico judge disqualified insurrectionist Couy Griffin from holding or seeking local or federal office.1 This was a huge win for protecting our democracy, and holding insurrectionists accountable. We can start seeing more wins like this in the future, but only if we come together.

Will you sign the petition to demand that ALL insurrectionists be disqualified from running for office again?

The U.S. Constitution Section 3 of the 14th Amendment declares that anyone who previously held public office and then engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States is disqualified from holding future office.

So, why hasn’t every insurrectionist been barred from running for office then?

Unfortunately, many secretaries of state and other elected officials will be pressured to hold back on disqualifying insurrectionists from office—for fear that this will be seen as a partisan issue. But we know that it’s not. We watched in real time the impacts of pushing election denialism and conspiracies—and that ultimately led to the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6. If we continue to let insurrectionists gain power, they will keep attacking our democracy over and over again.

We have to push secretaries of states and other elected officials to acknowledge the 14th Amendment—and disqualify all insurrectionists who violated their oath of office from the ballot. Will you sign the petition now?

Insurrectionists should have no place in public office. Sign the petition to hold insurrectionists accountable and prevent further attacks on our democracy.

Even with the facts showing that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, election deniers are still going with full force and attempting to gain power by running for office and spreading their conspiracies around the 2020 election—an effort that will push dangerous rhetoric and hate into elected offices that will further instill division and distrust in our country’s election process. In 2022, it was reported that 370 GOP election deniers ran for office, from secretaries of state to Congress to local elected office.2 And with 2024 around the corner, we can expect more election deniers to run again.

But our elected officials can fight back. It’s crucial that we apply pressure to ensure that insurrectionists stay off the ballot in every state and national office.

The New Mexico ruling is the perfect example of what can be done if those in power respect the 14th Amendment and use it to stop further attacks on our democracy. We know that it’s possible to uphold the 14th amendment on the ballot and in court. Now it’s time for our secretaries of state and other elected officials to play their part and remove insurrectionists from the ballot! Our democracy depends on it.

Sign the petition now to demand that insurrectionists are barred from holding public office, and share with three friends!

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile," filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into 2024, we need your help.

Will you start a monthly gift to power our critical work?
