Hi John,
Is it just us, or do back-to-school sales start popping up earlier and earlier every year?
It’s great to snag those savings, but it can be hard for kids to process the fact that summer vacation is winding down. They might not be excited about homework, quizzes, and tests. But when our children are getting ready to return to their classrooms, they should never have to fear bigotry, attempts to erase their identities and families, or threats to their very lives.
Schools should be places where ALL of our children are free to be who they are — and where we lay a foundation for who they will become. Every student should be free to go to school without fear of discrimination or violence. But this back-to-school season, extremist politicians and hate groups are trying to turn back the clock and force students into increasingly hostile and dangerous environments:
Banning diverse books
Erasing Black history
Forcing teachers to out or misgender their trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming students
Prioritizing protecting assault weapons over defending every child’s freedom to learn
Passing “Don’t Say Gay” or “Don’t Say Trans” bills
And more
All under the guise of supporting “parental rights.”
But parents and families are coming together to fight back for our rights and our freedoms. Including the right to have our children respected and affirmed in their schools. And the freedom for a child to see themselves and their families reflected in their school and their curriculum. And the ability to protect our kids.
We’re teaming up with Greater Than Hate for a Parents Week of Action to defend our families from extremist groups and politicians, starting September 23. Click here to find out how to join in — we’ve got events across the country, and there are also ways you can participate no matter where you are. [[link removed]]
Parents and allies have power when we come together and speak with one voice. We can speak with our lawmakers, we can make sure all of our children are supported and uplifted, and we can show the extremists that they won’t win.
Side by side, we’ll tell the fear-mongers that enough is enough: our kids won’t be pawns in your hateful game of division.
Combined, we are Greater Than Hate. And united, we can make sure our children are free to learn and free to thrive.
Join the Parents Week of Action [[link removed]] , and find out how you can get involved to protect our freedoms from the forces of hate that are trying to rip them away.
