Dear John, This Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee will vote on the CURE Act, a bill sponsored by pro-pot Representatives Jaime Raskin (D-MD) and Nancy Mace (R-SC). The bill would prevent marijuana use from being taken into consideration when individuals apply for government security clearances or federal jobs. Write your Representative today and tell them to oppose the CURE Act! The CURE Act should be opposed for the following reasons: Marijuana use could be an indicator of a person’s fitness in certain scenarios. Preventing it from being used at all would be a mistake. The intelligence agencies already have issued guidelines stating that marijuana use is not a determinative factor. The Director of National Intelligence thinks that marijuana should be allowed to be factor. She wrote in a memo, “disregard of federal law pertaining to marijuana remains relevant, but not determinative, to adjudications of eligibility for access to classified information or eligibility to hold a sensitive position.” Removing the ability for intelligence agencies to make their own determinations on whether someone’s marijuana use is problematic should be left up to them. Finally, people who use marijuana do so in violation of federal law. Any violation of federal law should remain a factor in security clearance determination. Sign this letter to tell your Representative to vote against the CURE Act! Thank you for all that you do, Sincerely, Dr. Kevin Sabet President and CEO Smart Approaches to Marijuana Action (SAM Action) SAM Action | 107 S.
