Governor Newsom has already signed into law AB 421 to reform California’s broken referendum process. Here are some of the other groundbreaking climate bills that the legislature has passed and are awaiting his signature:
SB 261, the partner bill to SB 253, mandates companies disclose their climate risk. AB 249 mandates lead testing of public school drinking water. AB 126 guarantees funding to cut vehicle pollution in underserved communities. SB 337 codifies a goal to conserve 30% of California’s land and coastal waters by 2030. AB 631 and AB 1167 penalize oil companies for oil spills and leaks, and ensure they are held responsible.
And all these bills don’t just affect California, friend.
Governments throughout the country and all over the world watch to see what California does, as a global climate leader with the world’s fourth largest economy. And when California leads, others follow. We show them what is possible.
That’s the kind of power and influence California has — and that YOU have, as a member of EnviroVoters.
Plus, because it covers corporations that do business in California but can be headquartered anywhere in the country, SB 253 is truly a national policy!
We are one big step closer to a greener future, where the biggest companies in the world measure and disclose their pollution, but we still need help to keep up the pace on our advocacy campaign to get all these bills signed into law.
