John,
I’ll get straight to the point. We urgently need your support to combat attacks escalating from a right-wing bully funded by Republican billionaires. This bully supported over 100 MAGA Republicans who voted to finish the coup attempted by a mob of armed white supremacists and neonazis on January 6 on behalf of Trump – a man who last night literally accused “Liberal Jews” of voting to “Destroy America,” spewing one of the most vile antisemitic tropes to attack Jewish Americans on Rosh Hashanah.
That right-wing bully is AIPAC. And they’ve already vowed to take me down with millions of dollars in attacks funded by Republican billionaires who are terrified of young, Progressive, Working Class Black women like me— but happy to give millions to pro-insurrection MAGA candidates.
You might not remember, but this is the same group that shamelessly fundraised from Republican mega-donors and deployed $5 million to sling baseless, divisive, and yes—racist lies about me. They went so low as to label me a Trump supporter collaborating with Marjorie Taylor Greene on countless ads and mailers filled with lies just to deter Black voters.
Now, they've set their sights on me again, just as we're launching our re-election campaign, because they’re scared of our people-powered movement that elected me to stand up for the powerless. Their attacks are an imminent threat to our democracy and the movement that you've done so much to help me build.
The reason behind AIPAC's attacks is their fear of anyone who challenges their far-right agenda. They know I’m in congress to stand up for folks who never felt like they had a voice and to amplify the voices of Black, Brown, poor, and marginalized communities that have been ignored for far too long by politicians in Washington. The only real threat I pose is to their power-hungry, billionaire Republican backers' goal of keeping those who wish to keep progressive, working-class Black women like me in check.
Just last year, they went so far as to lobby my future Democratic colleagues to distance themselves from me, in a vain attempt to prevent the first Black Congresswoman from representing Pennsylvania from taking her rightful seat. They see the progressive momentum we’ve created—for environmental justice, workers' rights, unions, criminal legal reform, and a reflective democracy—as a direct threat to their right-wing agenda.
AIPAC says they stand for one thing, yet their continued endorsements and support of MAGA Republicans steeped in bigotry, white supremacy, and antisemitism tell a whole different story.
Together, we can rise above these ridiculous attacks and focus on what really matters: building our multi-racial, multi-generational movement for bold progressive change and a brighter future for those who have been silenced for far too long.
Your unwavering support means the world to me.
Always in this fight with you,
Summer Lee
