Big tech owns your digital identity and controls your personal data.
Let’s put it into perspective. Before 1993, when the internet became available to people, mail was a prevalent source of communication for everyone. Imagine if, at the time, the U.S. Post Office made you this offer:
“We will ship your mail for free, but we will get to read all your mail.”
“And install a camera in your house.”
“And in your car.”
“And track your every movement.”
“And track your kids.”
You would’ve said NO WAY.
Well, big tech and social media companies are already doing the digital equivalent. They control all of your data and know your every move. They even benefit financially from your information: they own your digital identity and sell your information to the highest bidder.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, it is more important than ever to protect your digital identity, your privacy, and regain control over your data. We need to rein in the power of these big tech companies, and start passing laws requiring social media and tech companies to set privacy settings to the highest level.
