Woodland Unified School District Vice President Deborah Bautista Zavala
Woodland Unified School District Trustee Bibiana Garcia
Yolo County Superintendent of Schools Garth Lewis
I am deeply touched and honored by this endorsement. It reinforces our shared vision and commitment to ensuring our state is working around the clock to ensure every student has the opportunity to flourish.
Throughout my career, I have passionately advocated for enhancing access to quality education, a commitment that has been a cornerstone of my public service journey.
From my early days as the youngest Chief Consultant to the California State Assembly Higher Education Committee, I have worked tirelessly to craft policies that elevate educational outcomes and expand opportunities for students.
My dedication to education extends nationally, having been appointed by President Obama to the National College Promise Board, chaired by Dr. Jill Biden. In this role, I collaborated with a diverse group of leaders to transform the College Promise into a resounding success, initiating promise programs in over 400 locations nationwide, including many in California.
At the local level, I spearheaded the West Sacramento Home Run initiative, guaranteeing tuition-free college education for graduating high school seniors in our area. This initiative has not only garnered national recognition but has also fostered a nurturing environment for our children, from preschool to college, encouraging community service and fostering career pathways.
My journey also led me to serve as the Vice Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, where we secured unprecedented budget increases to enhance student success. Later, I had the privilege to work with the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, promoting regional collaboration and innovative policies.
As we look forward to the journey ahead, I am eager to champion and expand these innovative programs in the State Senate, bringing a brighter future to our community and our state!
