Adam Schiff for Senate

Hello John — My name is David McMillan. I’m Adam Schiff’s Little Brother. I hope you’ll allow me a few moments to talk about my relationship with Adam, and why his campaign for the U.S. Senate means so much to me personally.

When I was five years old, my mother took me to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America office in Los Angeles, and helped me fill out an application. In it, I said that I had three wishes: for a Big Brother, a puppy, and a beautiful world.

Adam had just moved to Los Angeles a year earlier, and, feeling settled in his new hometown, walked into the same Big Brothers office to volunteer. And of all the applications he looked at that day, he chose mine.

We were eventually paired up for a day, a kind of trial run, and Adam brought me to the beach in Venice where he was living at the time. After an afternoon battling the crashing waves and having a blast, we dubbed ourselves The Survivors. It was an incredible day, and the start of one of the most important relationships in my life.

After being on a waiting list, I finally had a Big Brother.

(By the way, here’s a photo of us from those days. Check out Adam’s truly impeccable style back then. I’d like to think I’ve helped him become a little more hip.)

Our relationship has only grown in the many years since — years that brought me to Yale, to USC film school, and to a career as a TV and film screenwriter. A career that Adam, my WGA brothers and sisters, and I are still fighting for on the picket line:

I’m a Big Brother now too, and Adam and I are family. We have been since the day we met. I was even honored to be a groomsman at his wedding to his amazing wife Eve. These days, since I’m not so “little” anymore, I just refer to him as my brother – because in all the important ways, he is.

He’s the kind of person we need more of in the Senate. Someone who will always fight to do the right thing — even if it’s not always the easy thing.

I hope you will join me by adding a small contribution to support Adam’s campaign ahead of his critical FEC deadline at the end of this month. And I hope sharing this story tells you a little more about the incredible person that Adam is.

Thank you so much for reading. And for supporting my brother.

Together, we can all make a beautiful world.
