[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

Look, I know I’ve been pretty persistent in asking for your support this year. So if you’ll hear me out, I want to take a moment to explain just why my campaign’s fundraising this year is so important.

Right now, potential opponents, the gun lobby and Republican super PACs are all taking stock of my reelection. They want to know a few things: Are people happy with the work I’ve done representing Connecticut? Am I taking this race seriously? And would I have the resources to respond to an onslaught of attacks?

It’s important that we make the answer to all of those a resounding YES, and one of the best ways we can do that is with a large number of individual donations.

The truth is, what we do this year is what’s most important for determining the shape of my reelection. Failing to put in the work now could easily mean we find ourselves in a tough race trying to fend off tens of millions of dollars from a self-funding billionaire or GOP super PAC — just like I had to do in my first Senate race.

Historically in Connecticut, this is the time in the cycle when potential opponents really start considering whether or not to run. So this is our chance to dissuade any serious challengers from getting in this race.

But to do that, we need as many people as possible to give before the FEC deadline this month. That way we can report a strong number and show that my reelection has a huge base of support from people. So here’s the part where I ask:

Please make a donation to my reelection today ahead of our FEC deadline. It will send a powerful message that we have the resources and public support to fend off anything they throw at me.

I know Election Day feels far off, but the decisions that shape 2024 are being made today.

So the louder the message we send about the people-power of this movement the better chance we have to keep this seat off the map.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
