In big win for Arctic, government cancels illegal oil leases in Alaska

The Department of the Interior announced it would cancel oil-and-gas leases that were auctioned unlawfully during the final days of the Trump administration. These leases were the first ever in the Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge, a sensitive region that generations of Americans have rallied to protect. This is a big step forward, hopefully one of many to protect the Refuge.

Saving Utah’s Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere and an iconic American ecosystem. It provides habitat for millions of migratory birds and supports a variety of industries. And if the lake goes dry, it could threaten human health for generations.

A disaster capitalist power grab for Hawaiʻi’s public water

The battle over freshwater resources on the Hawaiian Islands is as old as the colonialist mindset that fuels it. And now legacy plantation companies are using the devastating wildfires in Maui to make a greedy power grab. We can’t let them.

As we face the worsening impacts of the climate crisis, entrenched environmental injustice, and accelerating biodiversity loss, we must invest in this environmental law as an essential framework to building the infrastructure and driving the solutions that we urgently need now.
